This is basically my first real post. We say that the blog starts now, in this latest day of rage after finding - even a fly - the ease with which the media avoid the topic "white phosphorous". And then ...
What distinguishes a democracy? When do you can say that there is Democracy?
If we listen to the current television program "In Depth" is easy to hear politicians define a democratic country where there are free elections, as if elections were the strongest characterization of Democracy. Of course, to have free elections is something, is a major step forward compared to the dictatorship that should not be underestimated. But not enough for me ...
For there to be true Democracy must be there at these elements:
- free and independent: you must have a guarantee that neither the government nor anyone else can control the ability of citizens to share information and communicate (as claimed by Ian Clarke, founder of Freenet) ;
- possibility of access to political life for everyone, as long as the political career is bound by the hierarchies of the parties will never be a true replacement of parliamentarians.
- funding to only public and not private parties, so that individuals may indirectly affect the choices of a government at the expense of citizens;
- equal funding to all parties and coalitions, so that they are proposals to make the election campaign, not the emphasis of the posters.
